Colony 404 featured on Infoman

On March 3, in Montréal, we officially launched Colony 404: Your mission, counter misinformation, a game built on a simple idea: learning to navigate information can be engaging, accessible, and even a little playful.

Just days before the launch, on February 27, the project was featured on Infoman, introducing Colony 404 to a wider audience through a segment presenting both the game and the team behind it.

The truth as a survival tool

Set aboard the spacecraft ArthroPOD, Colony 404 places players in charge of information for a space colony cut off from Earth. Their mission is to filter incoming news and decide what can be trusted.

Inspired by the dynamics of social media, the game encourages players to apply essential critical thinking skills. These include verifying sources, cross-checking information, and analyzing how news is framed. In this world, information is not just power. It is survival.

A collaborative project

Developed by our team at Affordance, Colony 404 was created in collaboration with the Conseil de presse du Québec, with financial support from the Gouvernement du Québec. The project also brought together students from the Université de Montréal.

Each partner contributed to shaping an experience that is both educational and engaging, designed especially for young adults facing an increasingly complex information landscape.

Why a game

Misinformation is not always obvious. It spreads through familiar formats, emotional reactions, and fast-moving platforms. By placing players in an interactive scenario, Colony 404 creates space to experiment, question, and learn, without pressure but with purpose.
