At uOttawa to launch Echoes of the Court

Echoes of the Court: opening the doors of justice through play

On October 9, at the Innova space of the University of Ottawa, we officially launched Echoes of the Court, a project that reflects our core belief: games can make complex institutions more accessible, human, and engaging.

This launch marks the culmination of an ambitious idea first introduced three years ago. The goal was simple but bold: invite the public inside the Supreme Court of Canada through an immersive, interactive experience.

A bold vision brought to life

From our very first conversations with Étienne Trépanier and his Jurivision team, to the collaboration with the justices and staff of the Supreme Court of Canada, this project has been guided by a shared ambition. Recreate the iconic building. Design a gameplay experience that goes beyond facts and procedures. Tell the human stories behind the cases.

Echoes of the Court invites players to explore the inner workings of Canada’s highest court through narrative, interaction, and perspective-taking. It is not just about understanding how the system works. It is about experiencing the weight of decisions, the complexity of justice, and the people behind it all.

Why a game

At Affordance Studio, we see games as powerful tools for engagement and understanding. Serious games can translate abstract or intimidating systems into something tangible and relatable.

The justice system is often perceived as distant or difficult to grasp. By placing players inside a meaningful, story-driven experience, Echoes of the Court helps break down that barrier. It encourages curiosity, empathy, and a deeper appreciation for the role of justice in society.

A collaborative achievement

This project would not exist without the incredible collaboration between partners. The University of Ottawa, the Civil Law Section of its Faculty of Law, Awastoki (3D assets production), INEDI (360 reference material capture), and many others came together under the broader Supreme Court Experience initiative to bring this vision to life.

Each contributor helped shape an experience that is as thoughtful as it is engaging.

A project aligned with our values

Echoes of the Court is a clear reflection of what drives us. We design experiences that go beyond entertainment. Our goal is to inform, to inspire, and to create meaningful connections between people and the systems that shape their lives.

By exploring justice through play, we hope to spark new conversations and perspectives.
